Pianos for Sale

Cincinnati area pianos for sale

I do have some good used pianos for sale from time to time. The top picks are selected from better makes and models available in the Cincinnati area. The others listed comprise an interesting assortment of antique pianos that I have come across while adding to my early pianoforte collection.

Top Pick Pianos For Sale

1923 Baldwin Hamilton 5'3" grand piano. Nice touch and tone, in good condition for the age of the instrument.  Art-deco styling, mahogany, ivory keys, tuned at A440 (concert pitch) - $2800.

Now available for $2100, an exceptional opportunity to own a Baldwin Grand!

Sold - 1908 Baldwin cabinet grand upright piano. One of the finest uprights made, the mahogany finish could use some touch-up work, in good playing order, especially good for jazz or blues. Nice newly recovered keyboard and reconditioned action.

Nineteeenth Century Pianos For Sale

Sold - 1886 Steinway Model P cabinet grand upright piano. Steinway's top of the line upright of the period, when new priced the same as Steinway's concert parlor grand, the equivalent of $35,000 in today's dollars! Originally ebonized, has been antiqued brown, but in good playing condition. The keyboard retains the original ivories in excellent condition and genuine ebony sharp caps.

D'Almaine and Co. English Cottage upright piano with birdcage style action, a mid-nineteenth century Victorian Era gem (1870 or older). Beautiful rosewood case and exquisite ivory and ebony keys with unusual circular insets. Not fully functioning but could be restored to playing condtion. $950 as is.

Sold - 1867 Mathushek "Colibri" square grand piano. Very unusual in having a full-sized 7 octave keyboard (85 note), but piano is only about 60 inches wide/long (much smaller than most square grands of that era). Some work has been done on the action, with new keybed felts installed. Unlike many square grands this piano is in playing condition, and is tuned up to the pitch it was designed for - A 435. Frederick Mathushek was one of the finest American piano makers of the mid-nineteenth century, and his square grands were noted for their superior tone and design.

The case and cabinet parts are somewhat worn with some cracks in the lid and some missing veneer. The wood appears to be rosewood. The soundboard and plate areas are somewhat discolored due to age and a bit of paint overspray. The ivory keytops, although all there, are very worn and yellowed due to extensive use sometime in the past. The keyslip and possibly a few screws etc. may be missing. It definitely needs the attention of someone who is handy at antique restoration and refinishing. The old finish has already been stripped, just needs a few coats of varnish and this Civil War Era square grand could look pretty nice. It measures 59" X 34" by 37" height (about 14" with the legs off) even including the lid overhang. The small size would make it a perfect exhibit for a historic house or museum without taking up a lot of space, and it could also be used for the performance of the music from that period.

1840 E. N. Scherr square grand piano

This Jacksonian Era piano is missing its keyboard, action and strings but the rosewood and mahogany case would be quite striking with restoration of the existing finish or refinished. Could be useful closed as a display table in a historic house or museum or as a desk conversion. $400 as is.
